Instagrammers Who Capture The Heart of Hong Kong

My Instagram feed has been full of Hong Kong photographers since prepping to move to Hong Kong in 2018. Hong Kong is unique, and a melting pot for people from all over the world. It's an ever-changing piece of artwork and photography subject. I fell in love with Hong Kong and I follow these photographers to always remind me of the streets I once roamed. These photographers create a sense of nostalgia for me, so I thought I would share them with you.

Wilson Lee

Dividing his time between Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan, Wilson takes travel, documentary, and portrait shots. Having won the Sony World Photography Awards in 2015, Wilson has some impressive shots. He's collated shots from everyday life in Hong Kong in 2018-2019 into a visual diary photobook. you can purchase the English version of 'As Days Go By' here.

Gideon de Kock

This South-African photographer has a passion for candid, street, portrait, and documentary photography. My favourite shots are his shots of busy locations in Hong Kong, it truly shows the heart and soul of Hong Kong. Working with brands such as Hong Kong Airlines, there's no wonder his shots are so powerful.

Tommy Fung

Tommy's Instagram adds a bit of fun to Hong Kong photography. Adding obviously photoshopped elements and changing perspectives is his speciality. I just love it! It still blows me away how creative they are.

Bernie Ng

With a focus on symmetry and perspective, Bernie's drone shots give such a unique look at Hong Kong's buildings. Boasting over 15,000 followers on Instagram, Bernie is one to follow.

Ping Hoh Au

This photographer takes both digital and film shots, on two different accounts. Largely focussing on street photography, this photographer really brings the everyday life of Hong Kongers to life.

Old HK in Colour

This account colourises and animates historical photos of the city. Using AI and post-editing methods, they bring old black and white film shots to life. It's so interesting to see parts of Hong Kong back in the 40/50/60s; I just love it. They also always put the location of the shot, so it's much easier to see the change to Hong Kong as we know it today.

Romain Nicoloso

Romain has two accounts; one for illustrations/overlays and one for his drone shots. I've followed @flying_romnic83 for a year or so now, and more recently discovered his overlay account. Both provide such a unique view of the city; often choosing locations not always shown by other photographers.

You can find out more about Romain and purchase his prints over at his website.

Victor Cheng

Victor is among one of the photographers I've followed for a number of years now. his posts will always grab my attention, I just couldn't miss out his account. With clients such as Facebook, Google, Cathay Pacific, and BMW, it's easy to see how he has over 160,000 followers on Instagram.

You can purchase some of his prints over at The APT Studios.

Ivan Ng

I discovered Ivan's account probably about a year ago when I was following the Hong Kong protests closely. He was always on the front line of the protests taking shots of protestors, as well as live-updating his stories. He truly captured how intense the protests were. Now, he focusses on shooting the people of Hong Kong.

Sean Foley

Specialising in night photography, Sean truly captures the authentic Hong Kong lifestyle. I love the mysterious, dark tones of his shots. He takes pictures of the classic bright neon-signs but also the people working in markets and food stalls. He has such an eye for detail!

You can purchase some of his prints from Kakahuette.

Kevin Mak

An architect by day, and a photographer in his spare time. He has an eye for imperfections and contradictions found around the Hong Kong city environment. Boasting over 88,000 followers on Instagram, Kevin is definitely one to follow.

Ronson Chan

Ronson is able to create a sense of nostalgia for Hong Kongers. He captures the raw, everyday life of Hong Kong by making what may seem tiresome the normal eye come to life.
